Mueang Phuket District
Mueang Phuket is the capital district of Phuket Province, Thailand. Phuket town itself is located in the northeast of the district.
The district encompasses the southern part of Phuket Island. The west and south coast consists of several popular beaches
Rawai
Rawai is famous for its beach of the same name and its fishing village, which offer ideal opportunities to take photos of colourful boats and discover the culture of its semi-nomadic inhabitants, commonly known as ‘sea gypsies’.
At the seafood market, vendors concoct spicy seafood dishes, while along the waterfront there are casual Thai restaurants. Young people tend to frequent the lively discos and pubs further inland.
Chalong
Situated on the bay, the commercial district of Chalong is best known for its iconic Big Buddha statue on a hilltop. The colourful temple of Wat Chalong offers a panoramic view of the Andaman Sea. On the Ao Chalong jetty, there are seafood restaurants and lively bars. It is also an ideal starting point for day trips for sailing and diving.
Phuket Town
Phuket town is the capital of the province of the same name, located on the island of Phuket in Thailand. The famous Thalang Road in the old town is lined with colourful 19th century shophouses and Sino-Portuguese buildings. Although the historical part of Phuket is not very extensive, it is rich and exciting enough to explore in half a day.
Karon
Located on the west coast of Phuket Island, Karon is a charming seaside town renowned for its beautiful white sandy beach, Karon Beach. It is also home to the modern Buddhist temple Wat Suwan Khirikhet, watched over by two huge snake statues. The reason why Karon is the second most popular beach destination on Phuket Island is obvious: it has one of the longest beaches on the island and offers a wide variety of accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets.
