Phuket Introduces Free Smart Bus Service for a Sustainable Future
Local hero’s under PKCD and the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation collaborated to launch a complimentary air-conditioned phuket smart bus service in Phuket’s city center.
Key Figures Supporting the Initiative
Phuket Governor Sophon Suwannarat announced the introduction of the 22-seat Smart Bus EV, with support from figures like Rewat Areerob, President of the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO), and Phuket Town Mayor Saroj Angkhanapilas.
Service Details and Operational Plans
The Smart Bus EV service, for residents and tourists, will run on a circular route with 16 stops, operating every 30 minutes from 11 am to 10 pm. The trial period starts on May 9th, with the goal of transitioning all 14 buses in Phuket Smart Bus’s fleet to electric vehicles.
Emphasis on Sustainable Urban Development
Niphon Ekwanich, Chief Advisor to the PKCD Executive Board, highlighted the importance of sustainable urban development and clean energy adoption in improving local lifestyles and supporting eco-friendly tourism.
Addressing Traffic and Environmental Concerns
Bhummikitti Ruktaengam, Chairman of the Sustainable Tourism Development Foundation, stressed the project’s role in easing traffic congestion and parking issues in Phuket Town, while reducing air pollution and carbon emissions through electric buses.
