Patong

Patong is a lively beach on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand, famous for its nightlife and numerous dining and entertainment establishments.

Patong is both a beach and a town located on the west coast of Phuket Island. It is the island’s main tourist destination, known for its lively nightlife and numerous shops. Since the late 1980s, the beach has become very popular with Western tourists, especially from Europe. Outside the city, the rocky area of Patong also offers several secluded beaches, perfect for a romantic getaway. The water temperature is ideal for swimming, snorkeling or diving, ranging from 27 to 30 degrees Celsius.

Things to do in Patong

  • Beaches

Patong beach

The beach stretches over a distance of 3 kilometers and can be very evocative, especially in the central part in high season.
The northern part of the beach, near the big hotels, is considered the most beautiful and least resented part of Patong. In this part of the beach, there are fewer people and parking spaces are easier to find. There are also many local food and fruit vendors to sample. During the high season, the water is clearer and bluer, and many palm trees provide a nice shaded area to rest.

Freedom Beach

Freedom beach by Joey Santini

Freedom Beach is an exceptional secluded beach that stands out from the rest. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Phuket, with its remarkably fine, soft white sand and crystal blue waters. Despite its proximity to Patong Beach, which is the most talked about beach on the island, Freedom Beach is surprisingly quiet and peaceful.

Tri Tang beach

Tri Trang Beach is a beautiful oasis of peace located a few kilometers from Patong. This beach has undergone many changes, and in a good way, which is quite rare these days, so you might as well enjoy it while it lasts. Although there are a few sunbeds, there is only one row and enough space between them to not feel too close to your neighbours. There are restaurants for lunch or dinner, some of which are open until 9pm, but it’s a great place to spend the end of the day.

  • Shopping

Street shops

Street shopping is both fun and convenient, as it can be done while walking. Usually people don’t have to shop, but something has chosen to focus their attention while they are walking. It may be something they need, but haven’t thought of, but it’s usually just for the sake of buying. The initial asking price is often higher than expected, so negotiation is necessary. The starting price varies according to the season, the location (especially near Bangla) and how busy it is: in high season, when the city is busy, negotiation is even more important.

Central Patong

Although Patong Central is located right across the street from Jungceylon, a popular all-in-one entertainment, dining and shopping destination in Patong Beach, the target market for these two malls appears to be different. While Jungceylon offers a variety of entertainment, Central focuses solely on shopping and food.

You will find cosmetics, sunglasses and accessories.
You will also find the usual brands of clothes as well as luggage and toys.

Jungceylon

Jungceylon Shopping Centre is a gigantic complex located in the heart of Patong Beach and is the largest on Phuket Island. With an area of 200,000 square meters, it is so huge that it looks like a city. You will find a multitude of souvenir shops, a variety of restaurants, a department store, cinemas, electronic shops, massage parlours, a two-storey supermarket and many attractions on the upper floors.

Inevitably, as you walk down Bangla Walking Street, you will be greeted by smiling women who invite you to sit, drink and play bar games. The bars are open to all: men, women and couples.

Live music bars – Patong

Patong’s well-lit and well-sounded bars feature some of Phuket’s most popular live bands. Although quality can vary, the bands on Bangla Road are generally of a good standard and it only costs a drink to get in.

Go Go bars– Patong

Although the Go Go Bars in Phuket are not for everyone, there is no doubt that many curious people want to discover them and venture out at least once. These bars are all located in Patong Beach, and there are several, some more discreet than others. They offer lively atmospheres and dance shows, inviting you to party.
